C for Cricket & C for Controversy

Cricket and Controversy- a very romantic pair that still continues to mesmerize the individuals who search for hotshot masalas in the sports column of the dailies. The romantic tale of this infamous pair got a thrusting twist when Darrell "contrOverZial" Hair accused the Pakistanis of ball tampering in the final test match against England at The Oval. And this was marked as a beginning to a very noisy controversy, as after this accusation Pakistan refused to take on the field and the officials ruling that the match should be forfeited in the hosts' favour.

That was a verdict that the Cricketing world had never witnessed earlier. But the inevitable happened as the umpires, Darrell Hair and Billy Doctrove, passed out this ruling. And believe me, I, who had loved this game all my life, for a moment thought that "Bullfight" will be a better sport to eat up time. Phew!! this is just too much. When an accusation is made, many tend to react with their own versions and just dampen the spirit of the game that once made every gentleman proud. If there was ever any kind of ball tampering done, then the officials should inspect the ball and make things clear right away. But here we find a lot of mud sledging being done and the investigations now deal with every rubbish except the ball which was deemed to be tampered.

And before the dust over this matter settled, we find another OZ "Barry Jarman"- a match referee this time, who breaks his 9 year silence and comes to the forefront with his own revelations and his own version of Ball tampering. Hey!! what kind of match referee he was. He was probably appointed as match referee to give his verdict during the match, but he finds it more suitable to break the silence when he sees another OZ nailed by everyone for making the ball tampering allegations. This is not Cricket and nor is it a gentleman's attitude shown. Then, WHAT IS IT?

The coming days will witness more of these kind of allegations that will spring up from everywhere. We will find many silent souls who will mesmerize the world with their own version of the TRUTH or LIE. Oh!! Whatever it is? I dont care anymore. For me, the game has lost its charm. The charm that mesmerized me once, but its a distant reality for me now at this present moment.

We certainly need a revival in the game of Cricket. But who will provide that? May be we find a messiah for that in the coming days. Ending with a note of optimism!!
